Residents are permitted to put out up to ten bags of garbage per week, with the weight of each bag limited to 40 lbs.
A full recycling program, including door-to-door pickup, is available at no charge to residents. Recyclable products are divided into two types - "green" box and "blue" box. Recyclables are collected on alternating weeks between "green" and "blue".
Blue recycling boxes are available for purchase at the municipal office in Spencerville and at the Cardinal Library. However, the contractor will pick items up from any container (except a bag) so long as the content is correct.
If you require further information on the recycling program, please call the municipal office at 613-658-3055 or Waste Services Inc. at 1-866-611-4311.
The Municipality owns and operates a small landfill site to allow disposal of large items that cannot be placed at curbside. Located at 1225 Scott Road, the site is open Saturday mornings, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon (weather permitting).
Acceptable/unacceptable waste is defined in the site-specific Certificate of Approval issued by the Ministry of the Environment. Tipping fees apply as follows:
Yard waste and brush goes at $5.00 per truck or trailer load. Large scrap metal items may be disposed of in a recycling pile at no charge. Please call the Township office for further details.
Hazardous waste includes such items as paint cans, aerosol cans, batteries, motor oil, transmission fluid or brake fluid bottles, pesticides, herbicides and flammable or corrosive bottles. These are not recyclable and the landfill site is not licensed to accept hazardous waste. The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville hosts a household hazardous waste day annually. The details are published in local papers and information may be available from the Township office just prior to disposal day, which is generally held late in August.
